Old Khmer Images
About the SEAclassics Old Khmer Images
These images are scanned from a variety of sources, including Finot, Barthe, Bergaigne, Coedes, Pou, Jacques, the BEFEO, and the UNESCO-funded book.  They are, by and large, atrocious.
Access to decent images of inscriptions is a critical need for Southeast Asian Studies.  This is especially true now that we have the ability to intimately connect modern readings of the stones to the estampage and photographs they are based on.
We can readily deliver any line of any text, or even search through the entire corpus of images for each instance of a single word.  Such facilities will play a crucial role in bringing these ancient stones to life:
 -  advancing research by helping to resolve disputed readings,
 -  proving raw data for development of new image-enhancement technologies, and
 -  training a new generation of epigraphers, able to decipher inscriptions as yet undiscovered.
Usage  To see any image, choose it by name.  Double-clicking the image will extract or display related information, as possible.
A set of image-editing tools (based on Pixastic) accompanies each inscription:
Reverse black & white.
, zoom out, or Zoom in.
, increase or decrease contrast
, increase or decrease brightness
, unsharp mask (a kind of edge detection). This should be the final operation.
