Since its discovery in the 19th century, Sukhothai Inscription No. 1 - also known as the Inscription of King Ram Khamhaeng - has become one of the most important pieces of evidence for the early history and development of the Thai nation. In recent years, however, we have been witness to a monumental challenge in Thai history, which questions the authenticity of the Ram Khamhaend Inscription of Sukhothai.
This is a book about the inscription. It is also about controversy, and how a unique group of scholars in the field of Thai/Tai Studies have brought the matter of Inscription One's authenticity to trial.
